Considering that Cancun is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the Americas, it is no surprise that this sun-soaked city is in a constant state of evolution. New and upgraded hotels, plus new attractions and experiences, are designed to entice travelers from around the world.

Here are some of the latest developments in and around the destination.

New Hotels in Cancun

Several new hotels have opened this year. In the adults-only, all-inclusive category, new options include the 400-room Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, which has 10 dining venues, six bars and lounges and three swimming pools — including what’s billed as the longest rooftop pool in Cancun. The hotel is located adjacent to Dreams Grand Island Cancun, which is slated to open in 2025.

Luxury-seeking adults can also consider the new 88-room Hotel Mousai Cancun located in Costa Mujeres. It features two pools; guests also have access to the spa at the neighboring Garza Blanca Resort & Spa.

New all-inclusive and family-friendly properties include the 1,622-room AVA Resort Cancun, which has six swimming pools, a 2.8-acre lagoon, more than 17 food and beverage outlets, an expansive spa and a nightclub. In Playa Mujeres, the 498-room SLS Playa Mujeres opened in November with 18 restaurants and bars, a spa, four pools, a beach and marina, children’s play areas and an events center.

Marriott International, meanwhile, marked the debut of its first fully Marriott-designed, all-inclusive property with the opening of Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort. The property features a waterpark, a 5,000-square-foot children’s club and three swimming pools, one of which is only for adults.

In addition to the pending debut of Dreams Grand Island Cancun, new properties scheduled for a 2025 opening include Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, an adults-only all-inclusive slated to open in February. The property will have six pools, a lazy river, a spa, a fitness center and on-site entertainment facilities.

Travelers looking further ahead may want to mark their calendars for the 2026 launch of the 500-room Grand Hyatt Cancun Beach Resort, which will feature 11 dining venues, six bars, an indoor-outdoor spa, a fitness center and more than 16,000 square feet of event space. In addition, Hilton will expand its presence in Cancun in 2026 with the rebranding of the existing The Sens Cancun as a Tapestry Collection by Hilton property.

Still awaiting announcements about exact opening dates are St. Regis Costa Mujeres and Park Hyatt Cancun.

Cancun Hotels That Have Been Updated

Among the biggest news to come from Cancun’s existing hotels is the conversion of the Sandos Cancun to an adults-only property as of January 2025. As part of the relaunch, the hotel will offer new entertainment options, including theme parties, live DJs and revamped food and beverage menus.

In addition, Club Med Cancun is wrapping up renovations and upgrades this month. New features include a Sports & Wellness Island that hosts various active endeavors, a Family Oasis that includes family suites and a pool, a new program for young children between ages 4 and 23 months called Baby Club Med and a relocated Kids Club. Kempinski Hotel Cancun, meanwhile, has introduced a new treatment menu inspired by Mayan traditions at its Kayanta Spa.

News About Cancun Attractions, Restaurants and Transportation

Cancun has become a more accessible destination thanks to new equipment recently introduced at Playa Las Perlas, a public beach located in the Cancun hotel zone. New features include three wheelchairs, two aquatic chairs, two aquatic beds and two aquatic walkers and mats. The beach also offers accessible palapas and wheelchair-friendly bathrooms.

The city’s culinary scene, meanwhile, continues to garner praise on an international level. Kiosco Verde, a seafood restaurant, and La Casa de Las Mayoras, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant, were added as recommended restaurants by the Michelin guide earlier this year.

Also gaining the attention of travelers is the Tren Maya (Mayan Train), a new rail service serving multiple destinations in southeastern Mexico. A free shuttle bus service links Cancun International Airport with the nearest train station; as the system continues to expand, passengers will be able to reach several regions in Quintana Roo and other states.
