From secluded beaches to sumptuous hotel suites, the Mexican Caribbean offers lots of ways for couples to up the ante on romance. Officially known as the state of Quintana Roo, this vast region is home to some of Mexico’s most popular destinations, and while it attracts thousands of tourists from around the world, it’s still easy to find an uncrowded corner ideal for a romantic getaway.
Here are a few ideas.
The Romantic Side of Cancun
Cancun is home to myriad hotels well-versed in serving couples. Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, for example, is home to the Gem Spa, a 40,000-square-foot facility where couples can indulge in massage treatments. Spa time can be followed by dinner for two at Le Basilic, the hotel’s elegant, AAA Five Diamond French-Mediterranean restaurant. Nizuc Resort and Spa, meanwhile, offers “rituals” for couples that take place in a spa villa with a private pool and an outdoor deck. Options include the appropriately named Togetherness program, which features full-body aromatic massages, personalized facials and a hydrotherapy circuit.

Just outside of Cancun, couples will find SLS Playa Mujeres, one of the area’s newest hotels. In addition to treatments at Ciel Spa, couples here can reserve candlelit dinners in beautiful outdoor settings, arrange scenic private yacht excursions and partake in water-based activities.
Nearby, Beloved Playa Mujeres is a couples-only property ideal for intimate escapes. At its Beloved Spa, the Love in Paradise program includes relaxing treatments and wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, in a spa suite decorated with candles and flower petals. In Costa Mujeres, couples staying at the adults-only TRS Coral Hotel can arrange treatments at the Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness and even choose a “Love is Blind” package designed to celebrate the hotel’s role as the setting for the popular Netflix show.
Delights in Riviera Maya
Romance-infused vacation options in Riviera Maya include the Mayakoba hotel complex, which is home to four luxury hotels. The spa at Fairmont Mayakoba specializes in Maya-inspired treatments and products. At Banyan Tree Mayakoba, couples can arrange an in-villa dinner prepared by a private chef or a secluded moonlit dinner onboard a traditional "trajinera" boat that navigates Mayakoba’s beautiful canals.
The Kanai development is another popular destination for couples. At Etereo, Auberge Resorts Collection, for example, couples can sign up for a private tarot reading focused on “reflective experiential journeys,” or book the Pure Souls Sana experience at Sana, an Auberge Spa. The treatment includes exfoliation, a quartz-stone massage and clay application.
One of the newest spa treatments for couples in the region debuted recently at Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Tulum. The property’s SE Spa offers the Couples’ CBD Bliss & Cacao Harmony treatment, which makes use of Cannabidiol and cacao. After couples enjoy an exfoliating treatment and a warm cacao oil massage, they’re led to the Jacuzzi area for a private mimosa tasting.

Its lovely natural setting and 10 rooms and bungalows offer lots of secluded space, and duos can go for bike rides and arrange private guided snorkeling tours.
Another excellent choice is the adults-only TRS Yucatan Hotel, which offers romantic activities including private dinners at a picturesque cenote and sunset dinners with a view. And in Tulum, hotel Mi Amor offers options such as a private, four-course dinner on a platform overlooking the beach and a “perfect date” package that includes a private tour to the Tulum ruins, lunch and a couples’ spa treatment.
Then, just off the coast, the island of Cozumel has additional inspiration for a vacation for two — especially at the adults-only Secrets Aura Cozumel Resort & Spa, where guests can reserve private dinners on the beach or on a pier. To enhance the lovey-dovey vibe even further, clients can even have their rooms decorated with rose petals, tropical flowers and candles, accompanied by sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries.
