Royal Caribbean International is bringing back a historic name for its upcoming Icon-class ship (the third in the series): Legend of the Seas. The original Legend, retired back in 2017 and now sailing as Marella Cruises’ Marella Discovery 2, will live on through this brand-new vessel. Legend is set to be the first in the series to set sail in Europe, followed by the Caribbean year-round. It is currently being built in Turku, Finland.
“On the heels of celebrating one year of the record-breaking Icon Class and the memories made by vacationers of all ages on Icon, we are thrilled to announce the name of Royal Caribbean’s third Icon Class vacation,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “Legend of the Seas is the next bold step in this exciting era of vacations and the continuation of the Icon Class legacy, and we look forward to bringing the revolutionary lineup of experiences to more families and adventurers across Europe, the Caribbean and beyond.”
Altogether, Legend will feature over 40 bars and restaurants, seven pools, an expansive aqua park full of waterslides and more. It will also be the fourth ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), among its many environmentally friendly programs, extending to waste heat recovery systems and shore power connectivity.
Editor’s note: This page will be updated as more details about the ship are revealed.
Core Features
As on Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas before it, Legend will feature a diverse array of amenities and neighborhoods. These will include the Crown’s Edge combination skywalk, ropes course and thrill ride; the Category 6 waterpark, considered the biggest at sea; and Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea.
Deck amenities will extend to a signature Swim & Tonic swim-up bar and adults-only Hideaway with its own infinity pool suspended high above the waves below.
Families will enjoy their own Surfside neighborhood, complete with the adjacent triple-decker Ultimate Family Townhouse, which, according to the line, will tout “reimagined spaces.”
Itineraries
Upon its debut in July 2026, Legend will embark from Barcelona, Spain, and navigate seven-night Western Mediterranean routes to France, Italy and Spain during the summer.
Then, in November 2026, the ship will transition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it will sail six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries year-round. Ports will include Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, Oranjestad in Aruba, Falmouth in Jamaica and Willemstad in Curacao.
